The Lussier Family
Jim & Marguerite & Jesse Lussier own and operate MJ Quarter Horses, a 5th generation ranching operation. Founders, Jim & Marguerite, have four children, Layton (Brenda), Andrée (Stephan Brindle), Rachelle (Johnathon McLean), Jesse, and seven grandchildren. Summer of 2010 will be exciting as Jesse and his fiance, Ashley Saquet are getting married!

Jim and Marguerite are helped out full-time on the ranch by their youngest son, Jesse, who does nearly all of our horse training. It takes full time focus to handle the numerous chores associated with running a self-sustained horse breeding operation.

HORSE HERD MANAGEMENT
Our horses are managed on pasture all summer and brought home in the fall for our sale and weaning. In winter they are fed top quality grass hay and oats produced at our ranch. Breeding mares, stallions and growing young horses are also fed a good mineral and vitamin supplement to support their extra nutritional needs. We follow a strict protocol for vaccination, deworming, dental and foot care to ensure healthy, sound horses.

Selling horses is our livelihood, so special care and attention is given to ensure our buyers are happy with their purchases.

Weanlings For Sale
Our foal crop is offered for sale privately, at weaning time each year. Our sale colts and fillies are handled gently, halter-broke and are sent to their new homes healthy and happy for their new owners.

"Riders" - Started Ranch Horses For Sale
Each year Jesse a group of weanlings are retained to be started under saddle and sold as two, three or four year olds at select consignment sales. This allows us to promote our horses abroad to new potential customers that may not otherwise have opportunity to travel and see our horses and breeding program.

Horses retained for training and riding are facilitated by indoor and outdoor roundpen and arenas. The horses are started with groundwork in the round-pen and are always handle gently during their introduction to the saddle and into riding. Young horses are ridden out in the pastures for day-to-day ranchwork with our horse and cattle herds. Jesse uses a Buford roping dummy to familiarize the young horses with tracking, positioning and also to get them used to having a rope thrown from them. We're proud to have received alot of positive feedback about the horses Jesse has trained.
